Day 1 5/5/17
Today, my group and I went outside to test the mini ROVs and Mrs. S's larger ROV. We played around with the switches, and observed what parts of the ROV made it function well. Some of the ROV's were not built well, and we took note of the mistakes in order to avoid them when constructing our own ROV.
Day 2 5/9/17
Today, I began the period by watching tutorials about power cord and control box building. I learned how to use automatic wire strippers and how to solder two wires together. After watching the videos, I practiced cutting and removing tubing from wires with a vise gripper. Next class, I will be practicing soldering wires together.
Day 3 5/11/17
Today I practiced soldering wires. It was harder than I expected, and keeping my hand steady was a challenge. I eventually got the hang of it, though. After soldering, I watched a video about how to solder wires to a circuit board, which I will practice next period.
Day 4 5/12/17
Today I built a practice circuit board. I learned how to solder different parts to a circuit board, including LED bulbs, resistors, a dpdt switch, motor wires, and a 9-volt battery. Tomorrow, I will begin working on the real control box.
Day 5 5/16/17
Today I soldered the control box fuse wires together. Tomorrow I will try to finish soldering wires to the circuit board.
Day 6 5/18/17
Today I soldered the control box. Cassie and I stayed for tutorial to finish the board, and we are going to test out the control box next class.
Day 7 5/19/17
Today, I finished putting together the rest of the control box. It was tough under the time crunch, and pulling out the switches was especially difficult. Luckily, all my hard work resulted in a properly functioning control box! Next time we meet, my group will be ready to test our ROV.
